ATA Announces First Angel Investing Education Summit

ATLANTA (PRWEB) April 26, 2011

As the economy improves, more and more investors are considering angel investing as a high-growth option to their portfolios, and Atlanta Technology Angels (ATA) is the pre-eminent source in the Southeast that can help. In fact, ATA will host its first full-day educational summit, Angel Investing Overview, on May 17 at the Georgian Club in Atlanta.

The summit will feature the highly acclaimed seminar put on by the Angel Capital Association (ACA). ACA is the trade organization for all U.S. angel groups, and its mission is to support the growth and investment success of its members. ACA has presented the seminar across the country and received the highest marks for the caliber and content of the education.

Even those experienced in this field say how beneficial it is to meet with others and discuss successes and losses. Many consider angel investing the riskiest type of investment, says Devon Wijesinghe, ATA Chairman of Member Services. While that might be true for some, the reality is that this type of investing takes education. And for those who learn how to do it right, it can be by far the most lucrative.

After all, in the angel arena, investing doesnt just involve looking at spreadsheets and forecastsit takes knowing the entrepreneur, understanding the management teams skills, and helping them execute their vision. Angel investors are typically successful entrepreneurs or executives who have exited their companies and have sat in the same seat and seen the same curveballs as the entrepreneurs pitching them.

The entrepreneurs get much more than capital from angel investors. They get human capital, which is far more valuable, notes Michael Horten, ATA board member in charge of the summit.

Those interested in angel investing should plan to attend the upcoming Angel Investing Overview to learn the skills necessary for successful angel investing. The summit will offer panel discussions and other educational sessions, but the majority of time will be spent in interactive sessions for maximum benefit. Topics will include portfolio strategies, company valuation, deal terms, due diligence and exit strategies. This event will include breakfast, lunch and a cocktail reception.
